Donna's story

My Name is Donna and my story starts on the morning of 12th November 2007, I was 24wks pregnant. I had been suffering stress at work for months, this morning I decided my baby was too important and I went to see my GP, who signed me off with stress at work, this decision was not taken lightly, in fact by 4.30 in the afternoon, I went into spontanious labour, despite having two previous normal deliveries.

I was admitted to hospital and they managed to stop labour for another 7 days. Jon Joseph was born on 19th November 2007, weighing 720g and 15 weeks early. He was born with meningitis and high levels of infection. Jon was ventilated for 6wks and had Cpap for 2wks, He had numerous infections and bled into the tiny ventricles of his brain. We spent 4mths in hospital, we were lucky!

Jon is now 12mths old, he is a lively character, who fills our lives with love and joy every day. My only hope is that his story raises the profile with politicians, media and the public in order to enable Action Medical Research to discover why babies are born too early. I still have no answers and neither does my son.
